During the last couple of weeks a fair few anglers have ventured on to the river banks or still waters, milder temperatures during the holidays allowed anglers to get out even for a few hours. Pike and Zander anglers have been gathering momentum on both Ten Mile and the Middle Level. Pike to 16lb have been reported between Neepes and the High Road, smaller pike and zander have been reported from Crooked Chimney, and the Pingle Bridge end. Zander to 6lb and pike to 8lb have been common in the favoured stretches, dead baits and lures have been proving more popular during the milder day sessions, but during the cloudier and cooler days live baits and jigs have been more successful. Ten Mile Bank, seen a fair few anglers on the bank, both match men and specimen anglers have been successful in targeting there species. Roach and skimmers have been showing frequently around Modney Bridge back to the Chapel, Perch and small pike have been showing between Railway Bridge and Browns Farm. A brace of double figure pike to13lb 8oz and 14lb 3oz were part of a catch taken from the Denver to Piggeries stretch, 2 other pike to 7lb and a zander to 7lb 6oz was also recorded in the catch during the festive period. Danby Drove has been producing the better catches of roach with pole and tip working well, small balls of ground bait packed with squat and caster has been used to hold the roach in the swim then using a slow fall of the hook link to produce the better presentation for the desired effect. Tip anglers have also featured strongly using the same packed ground bait but long tails have been used to entice the fish into feeding. Cut Off Channel, not many anglers about but the odd one or two anglers that have fished at the Fordham end have been rewarded with a few roach and skimmers, showing on the pole line and the tip, also the odd pike downstream from Fordham Bridge. Shepherds Port.Shepherds Lake, the busiest place during the festive period with a fair few anglers gathering on the banks. Even the odd carp has still been feeding during the last couple of weeks, bream and skimmers have also featured during the milder temperatures when using double bronze or red maggot. Roach, rudd and small chublet have also been featuring strongly on both the pole and whip, waggler sessions have also been very rewarding during the last couple of weeks. |
