As the last week of the season approached and milder temperatures arrived conditions looked favourable for the anglers, as of late the klaa waters had seen a vast improvement of catches around both the rivers and the still waters. Double figure nets were being reported during the week, supported by double figure nets to near 22lb during a mild weekend. Middle Level, catches improved dramatically during the last week with both feeder and pole methods being successful, maggot and pinkie both finding the roach whilst worm was presented on the hook to find both skimmers to nearly 12oz and 6-8 oz perch. Peters, saw a few anglers about in midweek with anglers reporting better catches , Neepes and Crooked Chimney saw the better weights with nets into double figures recorded. Skimmers and roach were the main species caught but the odd perch and small tench was also reported in nets of around 14lb. Ten Mile Bank, also saw a few anglers on the bank during the last seven days with catches showing at Modney Bridge and the Chapel, roach and skimmers to 6oz were showing on the pole but catches on the tip didn't materialise, Danby Drove also provided a few roach with nets to 8lb 4oz reported. Little Ouse catch rates started to slow down as the fish started to move away from the bridge area, heading back towards the main river but fish were caught and weights were received, nets to just under 10lb have been recorded with pinkie and maggot both finding the dace, roach bleak and rudd. Shepherds Port, Shepherds Lake plenty of roach and rudd reported also small skimmers to 6oz showing on the pole lines, 7 bream were caught on the tip from the far side of the lake with roach also showing to 10oz. Fish meal ground bait presented with a mixed maggot hook bait finding the bream at 20 meters. Nets to around 30lb reported. Bear Lake, another venue which saw a few more anglers about as conditions improved, small carp showing on maggot, bigger fish finding the sweetcorn tight to the island, estimated catches to over 20lb with anglers reporting a handful of bigger fish along with six or seven pasties to over a pound. Junior News, the Lynn youngsters continued to maintain there form with another very encouraging display on the river Steeping at Wainfleet, a strong gustily wind was making conditions hard for the presentation of the baits but the Lynn youngsters persevered to record another win and gaining another 2 points on championship rivals Lincoln. Toby Pepper was 2nd 6lb 13oz 3rd place went to Brendan Strowlger 6lb 5oz. Kirsty Reed, Gary Harris and Timmy Pepper all scored valuable section wins, With only 2 rounds remaining the juniors look to have one hand on the trophy, another great team performance from all the anglers, next round is Sunday 18th April. KLAA Notice, It has been agreed that ticket prices will remain the same price as last year, The KLAA committee feel that during the present climate it would be unfair to raise permits prices. The club has seen an increase on leased waters, and have undertaken big projects in redeveloping some venues during the last 12 months. Fishing the klaa waters is still priced very reasonably with the amount of venue and water it controls for just 80p a week. Shepherds Port will re-open on Saturday 3rd April, where permits for one day only can be purchased on the bank from Club Secretary Ash Brown and Club Treasurer Mark Harding. |
