At last milder temperatures arrived during the last seven days, with all lakes and rivers free from ice and snow, conditions began to look very favourable for anglers to return to the rivers and still waters for the remaining couple of weeks of the season. Sunday became a wash out for anglers as the downpour continued throughout the day. Earlier in the week fish were caught from Shepherds lake with the odd angler catching well on most methods, Reports were received from both the Level and Ten Mile of roach and skimmers showing on the tip and and on the pole. As the week moved on catches and weights were reported from both Shepherds and the Level but no weights or catches were received for Sunday. Shepherds Port. Shepherds Lake, again producing plenty of roach and rudd with skimmers also showing close in, maggot working well for all methods, during the later stages of the week nets were starting to appear with good size quality fish, weights to over 10lb have been recorded to more consistency during the last seven days. Bear Lake has been attracting more anglers than off late with a few small carp showing during the later stages of the week, Saturday was the better day with some anglers catching a few of the little stockies on red maggot. Middle Level, reports of roach and skimmers at Neepes and also at Morton's - Crooked Chimney, weights have been estimated at between 5-7lb, Neepes has been the more productive with fish rangeing from 4-9 oz. Maggot producing the better stamp fish, feeder line producing more fish , small hooks and long tail reaping the rewards. No Predator reports have been received from the level this week. Ten Mile Bank, at last a few fish to report with Modney and Danby both showing roach, pole lines to 11 meters finding the fish also small skimmers to 10oz showing on the tip. No net weights have been received but catches have been estimated between 4lb -8lb. Again plenty of jacks showing this week but the big ones are proving very tricky to locate. Small plugs and jellie lures for the jacks. Little Ouse, better reports have been received during the last seven days although Sundays downpour would have increased flows for forthcoming week. Roach, rudd, bleak and dace all being caught on the pole, pinkie and maggot finding the fish. The flows had decreased allowing anglers to use lighter floats for a more ideal presentation, bites have been both fierce and finicky as the fish have been more confident in feeding. Double figure nets have been becoming quite consistent. |
