During the last week a few fish have been caught and reported, roach and dace on the Little Ouse, Pike from the level and bream and silvers at Shepherds Port. Despite the snow showers a few more fish were reported during the last seven days. Little Ouse, despite the conditions towards the back of the week fish were reported on several of the swims on this flowing winter venue, roach and dace have been the bulk of the nets caught but a few chublet and rudd also showing on the pole line. Pole lines being the preferred method to try, ground bait also working well to maintain the fish in the swim, pinkie and maggot on the hook for best results, small sections of worm attracting the chublet and perch. nets to over 12lb reported. Ten Mile Bank, still proving to be very hard fishing on this old winter favourite, some fish caught from around Modney Bridge and the Chapel but no weights have been received. Specimen anglers also around on the great ouse but no major big catches found, mainly jacks to 4lb and perch to a lb reported all caught using jellie type worms. Middle Level, reports have been received from an angler reporting his catch on the Middle Level, An 18lb 9oz pike reported along with a 9lb 2 oz smaller pike from a swim on the level between St Germans to Neepes the angler didn't want to be named but his catch was caught on popped up roach. Shepherds Port, plenty of silvers showing on the pole lines, pinkie attracting the fish, also changing to a single red maggot producing the odd better fish to nearly 10oz,hook sizes are playing a part with the smaller hooks 22/24 presented with a pinkie or maggot. Feeder rods also working with a small feeder and a long 2ft tail, leave ground bait to empty before bringing tail over bait, bream over 4lb reported also the some skimmers to nearly 2lb reported from the far side of the lake, pegs 15 to 18. Bear lake, again struggling this week to find the bigger fish but the odd pastie showing to single maggot. Hopefully this weekend milder temperatures should start to arrive driving away the snow and wintry conditions enabling a few more anglers to return to the banks as the river season is only weeks away from closing.
