One of our committee men was out walking his dog near Mortons Bridge on the Middle Level main drain when he spotted what looked like bobbins in the water. Upon investigation a micro fine gill net was placed across the entire river, some 40 yards across. KLAA officers where called along with the EA bailiff, who removed the net, which contained 5 specimens, 4 Tench to 7lbs and 1 Bream. We are happy to report all the fish were returned alive without serious damage. We would like to thank the Agency for thier speedy response to this event, who where on the scene within 45 minutes. This is really concerning and again reflects on the derisory punishment handed out on the previous local incident and prosecution from May last year on the river Wissey. We need this stamped out, with a clear message by the courts that this will not be tolerated.
What does Angling need to do to protect it's future with the ever increasing number of these illegal netting incidents. This is not fishing, this is theft!
