At last a few anglers around during the last week as milder temperatures arrived and drew the anglers back to the bank. Some good nets reported and some dismal catches were also recorded. Saturdays fish survey match at the Cut Off Channel proved to be what most anglers feared no fish. 14 anglers took to the bank at the cut off and all blanked with not 1 single fish reported, early on arrival the water conditions looked perfect but no sightings of fish topping was a general concern but as the match got under way it was the flow which caused most concern, unexpectedly as the water level dropped 4 feet in the first hour and a half and continued to fall until an hour before the end and then started to back up but still no fish were found. Little Ouse, still plenty of fish around from most swims and big dace are being found away from the bridge, plenty of roach and rudd to, as nets to over 35lb being reported. River Wissey, a venue seen a few more anglers around with good catches of roach, rudd skimmers and perch all showing to form nets of over 19lb on Friday and 22lb was reported from the A10 side on Saturday. Sticky ground bait with plenty of pinkie and squat added to hold the fish and few loose offerings was the key for Fridays catch. Ten Mile Bank, at last a few anglers around on the great ouse , catches were reported but no real big surprises, nets between 6-9lb were common from Wissey Mouth through to Modney Bridge. pole method and feeder method both working for skimmers and roach, even the odd decent size perch was taken from between browns farm and the chapel. Tottenhill, a few more anglers took to the banks during Friday /Saturday and the odd carp did show on corn, and maggot. plenty of silvers around caught on pinkie. Shepherds Port, Bear Lake, busy at the weekend and some small carp did show, bread and corn did tempt the odd carp from its winter retreat. Shepherds Lake, early in the week catches were down and anglers struggled to find any fish, but fish were reported Friday and through the weekend even an odd bream was recorded on Saturday. worm over a fish meal base, was the method used. also plenty of silvers around from the small end of the lake (closest to bear lake end) and some quality roach and rudd to 12oz were reported. Middle Level, a few pleasure anglers around during the weekend and plenty of fish topping between the high road and peters. a few roach and skimmers found but no net weights given. Predator anglers also around at this stretch and some were successful in there quests. new predator angler Chris Cawdry who has only just started fishing, Chris started his session with a couple of small pike before landing a bigger size pike of 5lb 8oz a personal best for Chris. His aim know to keep beating the Pb he set. ![]() |
