The last few weeks has been very cold, but at least some of the predator anglers have started to catch on a more regular basis. Local rod Garry Mortimer began a session on the Old Bedford and during the hour he fished he smashed his own personal best 3 times. Firstly he landed a pike to14lb 8oz, then twenty minutes later the rod flew round to land another of 17lb 8oz and then just minutes after he landed another pike to 20lb 2oz. A big brace of pike in an hour and 3 personal bests is a mean feat to achieve. Also other predator anglers have had some good success with some good fish to 18lb reported from Ten Mile Bank and the river Wissey, also smaller fish to 14lb 6 oz have been caught from the Little Ouse. On the coarse fishing side many of Lynn waters are covered in ice but some reports were made during the holiday spell. Tench have been showing on the Cut Off Channel to 8lb also a few roach have been reported. Ten Mile Bank still not fishing to its full potential but a few roach and bream have been reported to form a net of 11lb 9oz from the Chapel, and Modney Bridge has been showing the roach from the swims closest to the bridge with nets to 6lb 3 oz, Wissey Mouth still holding some of the bream with catches to 13lb 9oz reported for 3 bream . River Wissey, still plenty of roach and dace showing and the odd perch, bread punch working well as are fluro maggot. Both sides of the main road producing the fish. Little Ouse still the hottest water at the moment as anglers continue to dwell on this little winter venue. Plenty of roach, rudd, dace and bleak with nets to nearly 20lb recorded. Middle Level, continues to struggle as the temperature drops, and the majority of anglers around on this venue at the moment are the predator anglers. no weights reported on any of the stretches of the level. Tottenhill/Bear lake,Shepherds Lake, as with all still waters ice has started to gather on these lakes and the fishing has dropped off but some reports of silvers on Shepherds and Tottenhill have been recorded. KLAA open Match Sunday 25th January. Venue to be confirmed nearer the date, depending on venue fishing well at time. Possability of either Little Ouse or River Wissey. Other venues will also come into consideration. to book a place contact Darren Reed 07984171874. Other News. Angling Unity Angling has made a huge step forward in it's need to have a single voice representing the near 4 million anglers in the UK, over recent weeks the previous governing bodies have all merged into a single new unified body to be known as the Angling Trust. This will represent Sea, Coarse, Game and Specialist Anglers in terms of a single governing body with one voice. You may wonder why this is important to angling, but with the current age of consultation and professional trust bodies angling has lost out and needs to be formally presented and recognised. This places anglers at the table and with up to 4 million potential voters now represented with a single voice this can only benefit angling in the future. It has already brought about £1.56m of new funding from Sport England, previously not available. |
